Loewe Unveils Stylish New Wireless Home Theater Sound System

Having delivered a bold relaunch of its TV range in 2024, complete with a premium high-design range featuring a unique ultra-slim concrete back plate, luxury German AV brand Loewe is now turning its attention to its home audio proposition in the attractive shape of a new 720W plug-and-play “We. BOOST” wireless home theatre sound system.

The We. BOOST is based on an unusual 4.1.2-channel configuration, comprising two speakers designed to sit either side of your TV, two speakers designed to sit behind your seating position, and a promisingly large subwoofer potentially able to sit anywhere in your room where its driver output isn’t obstructed.

Probably the most similar sound system to it I can think of would be Sony’s Bravia Theater Quad system, with its four flat, wall-mountable speakers also delivering a full surround sound experience despite not including a dedicated centre channel speaker. Unlike the Quad system, the We. BOOST includes a subwoofer in its £999 price, and provides a centre channel output so that you could potentially add an extra dialogue speaker if you’re able to accommodate one.

The four strikingly compact satellite speakers are all active designs, featuring up-firing speakers built into their top edges, with separate tweeter, mid-range driver and bass ports built into their fronts. This promising driver array is hidden away behind an attractive textured grey felt that wraps around each satellite speakers’ front, left, right and top sides, while the rear and bottom edges are finished in a heavy duty looking matt black.

Each top and bottom corner of the satellite speakers is gently rounded off to soften their look, too, ensuring that in typical Loewe style the We. BOOST system ends up feeling like more of an enhancement to your living space than an imposition on it.

Even the We. BOOST’s subwoofer (which is inevitably much larger than the other speakers given the low frequency job it needs to do) is an unusually good looking unit thanks to its crisp premium black finish, rounded edges and corners, and generally outstanding build quality.

The inclusion of up-firing drivers in the top edges of the satellite speakers alerts you right away to the fact that the We. BOOST can support the Dolby Atmos sound format, with its ‘overhead’ height channels. The up-firing speakers are designed to fire overhead effects onto your ceiling, completing the full hemispheric sound stage around your seating position that’s a key part of a true Dolby Atmos experience.

There’s also support for Dolby Digital and PCM audio – though Loewe makes no mention of also supporting the DTS:X format some home entertainment studios some films use as an alternative to Dolby Atmos.

Looking into the We. BOOST’s connectivity uncovers another premium surprise: The inclusion of an HDMI eARC dongle in place of any physical HDMI connections. This dongle can transmit sound wirelessly to the speakers from the eARC-capable HDMI connection of your TV, and also carries the system’s only physical connections: the centre channel output mentioned earlier, and a simple audio line input – though the system does also support Bluetooth Low Energy streaming from your smart devices.

One final unexpected premium touch of the We. BOOST package is the presence on its remote control of a small built-in OLED display you can use to help you choose between different sound modes or make it easier to individually adjust the relative volumes of the system’s different speakers.

The We. BOOST home theater audio system is set to go on sale in the UK in June from selected Loewe shops and retailers, priced at £999. Loewe does not currently sell its products in U.S. territories.
