U.K. Home Entertainment Topped Record $6.3 Billion in Revenue in 2024, Driven by Hollywood Content

The U.K. home entertainment industry generated a record £5.1 ($6.3 billion) in revenue in 2024, or 17% of the region’s total media and entertainment industry revenue, largely driven by Hollywood movies distributed across myriad formats, including subscription streaming, according to new data from British Association for Screen Entertainment (BASE) and the Official Charts Company.
“Visual entertainment remains the most popular entertainment pastime in the U.K.,” Liz Bales, CEO of BASE, said in a statement. “Premium digital formats have already set records in 2025, with Wicked becoming the most-popular PVOD title since records began in the U.K.”
Warner Bros. Pictures was the top-selling studio with almost 23% market share, driven by Wonka selling a combined 821,000 units across digital and disc; Dune: Part Two added 817,000 unit sales across disc and digital, followed by Barbie with 562,000 unit transactions.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon” ruled the Official TV on Video Chart for the third year running, adding 31,000 unit sales, while season two contributed 24,000 unit sales.
Separately, combined disc sales of all “Doctor Who” totaled 200,000 unit sales with revenue topping £4.5 million ($5.6 million).
Dune: Part Two was also the top selling title on disc, with 132,000 units sold across Blu-ray Disc and DVD combined.
4K UHD Blu-ray Disc sales grew 21% with 1.3 million unit sales generating £30.5 million ($38 million), driven by re-releases of catalog titles such as Aliens, The Terminator, The Crow and The Lord of the Rings, among others.
Universal Pictures’ Oppenheimer was the No. 1 rental title with 713,000 transactions across all formats, including 487,000 VOD rental units.
Disney/Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine was the biggest electronic sell-through title of the year with 465,000 units sold.
Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was the biggest title from an independent studio, with 347,000 unit sales across all formats.
Paramount Pictures’ A Quiet Place: Day One was the top-selling horror title with 232,000 unit sales across all formats.
