The week of May 21 is relatively light for major new releases, though some of the bigger titles include The Fall Guy and Civil War becoming available for premium digital sale and rental.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will make the action comedy The Fall Guy available for premium digital rental and purchase starting May 21. The digital version includes an extended cut of the film with an additional 20 minutes of footage. Based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, The Fall Guy stars Ryan Gosling as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who is drafted back into service after a near-career ending accident when Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), the star of a mega-budget studio movie goes missing. On top of that, the movie is being directed by Colt’s ex, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). Directed by real-life former stunt man David Leitch, the film is filled with over-the-top action and jaw-dropping practical stunts. The film has earned $127.4 million globally since its April 24 international release date, including $62.9 million from North America, where it was released May 3.

Alex Garland’s sci-fi epic Civil War will be available for digital purchase Friday, May 24 through digital retailers from A24. The film, which earned $67.28 million in North American theaters according to Box Office Mojo, stars Kirsten Dunst, Cailee Spaeny, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Nick Offerman. Civil War takes the increasing political polarization of the United States one step further, following a fictional journey across a dystopian future America by a team of military-embedded journalists as they race against time to reach Washington, D.C. before rebel factions descend upon the White House.

The Liam Neeson action film In the Land of Saints and Sinners will be available for digital purchase May 21 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. In the film, having left his dark past behind, retired hitman Finbar Murphy (Neeson) leads a quiet life in a remote coastal Irish town. But when a menacing crew of terrorists arrive, Finbar is drawn into a vicious game of cat and mouse, forcing him to choose between exposing his secret identity or defending his friends and neighbors.

The crime thriller Dead Wrong will be released on Blu-ray Disc and through digital retailers May 21 from Mill Creek Entertainment. In the film, a narcissistic husband is not satisfied with his life and wants more. He devises a psychotic, get-rich-quick scheme with his new, gambling-addicted attorney that ignites an emotional and deadly chain reaction. Directed by Rick Bieber, the film stars Derek Smith, Katrina Bowden, Rob Schneider, Chelsea Debo, Cress Williams, Blake Shields, Rosalie Ward, Joshua Bitton and Chet Hanks.

The 2013 Oscar-lauded feature American Hustle will be released in a limited-edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook combo pack on May 21 by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, in time for its 10th anniversary. The combo pack includes the film on 4K Ultra Blu-ray, Blu-ray Disc and digital. The crime drama earned a global gross of $251 million on a budget of $40 million and picked up 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. In the film from director David O. Russell, scam artists and lovers Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) and Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) are entrapped by ambitious FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) and coerced into participating in a major sting operation that hinges on snaring crooked politician Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner) and his associates. Complicating matters is Irving’s wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence), who could bring the whole operation crashing down around them all. The film is presented in 4K resolution with Dolby Vision, featuring English Dolby Atmos + 5.1 audio, with HDR and Atmos approved by director David O. Russell. Special features on the 4K disc include 15 minutes of never-before-seen deleted and extended scenes and the theatrical trailer. Special features on the included Blu-ray Disc are 11 deleted and extended scenes and “The Making of American Hustle.”

The 1971 film Bushman, about a Nigerian immigrant in San Francisco whose life suddenly takes a tragic turn, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc May 21 by Milestone Films and Kino Lorber. The film was unreleased for more than 50 years. In 1968, Peace Corps veteran David Schickele enlisted his friend Paul Eyam Nzie Okpokam to star in a what was supposed to be a lighthearted drama about the adventures of a well-educated Nigerian immigrant in San Francisco. The film, which uses a docu-fictional style reminiscent of John Cassavetes’ Shadows (1959), morphs into a documentary when the director’s voice abruptly intrudes to narrate its star’s fate: Okpokam was accused of a crime he did not commit and found himself at the mercy of the U.S. justice system. Unreleased for more than 50 years, the new restoration of Bushman premiered at the 2023 Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna, Italy. Since then, the film has gone on to screen throughout the United States and in Austria, Norway, Australia, Belgium, Japan, England, Germany, Denmark and France. Bushman has been restored (both on 4K and 35mm) by the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive and The Film Foundation, with funding provided by the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation.

Kino Lorber May 21 will release on Blu-ray Disc the 1974 romantic dramady Daisy Miller, from famed director Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon). Based on The Turn of the Screw, the classic novella by Henry James, Daisy Miller stars Cybill Shepherd as a free-spirited young American living abroad in Europe with her daffy mother and bratty kid brother. A woman who does as she pleases, but seldom pleases anybody but herself, Daisy is very liberated and very much ahead of her time as her behavior scandalizes the Victorian high society of 1878. The film costars Bogdanovich favorites Barry Brown (The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid), Mildred Natwick (Barefoot in the Park), Eileen Brennan (The Sting) and Cloris Leachman (Young Frankenstein). Daisy Miller comes to Blu-ray from a new HD master created from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative.

Four classic Republic Pictures horror films, released theatrically between 1944 and 1946, are coming to Blu-ray Disc May 21 from Kino Lorber in the Republic Pictures Horror Collection. The films have all been upgraded from HD masters, made from 4K scans, by Paramount Pictures, which acquired Republic in the late 1990s. The four films are:

  • The Lady and the Monster (1944) — Erich von Stroheim plays a mad scientist bent on keeping the brain of millionaire William Donovan alive after he removes it from Donovan’s dying body. His assistant (Richard Arlen) serves as host for Donovan’s brain impulses; the lady of the title (Vera Ralston) fights against the monstrous experiment.
  • The Phantom Speaks (1945) — The vengeful spirit of an executed murderer (Tom Powers) enters the body of a physician (Stanley Ridges), and forces him to do its bidding—namely, murder. A newspaperman (Richard Arlen) must unravel the bloody supernatural secret before it’s too late.
  • The Catman of Paris (1946) — After a mysterious cat-like creature slaughters people close to him, Parisian Charles Regnier (Carl Esmond) is suspected of murder. Charles fears that he is the beast, but his paramour Marie (Lenore Aubert) and best friend Henry (Douglass Dumbrille) believe he’s innocent…until the Catman begins to stalk Marie!
  • Valley of the Zombies (1946) — Long-dead madman Ormand Murks (Ian Keith) once believed that endless blood transfusions would make him immortal. Now resurrected via voodoo, he stalks the city for human blood. A woman (Adrian Booth) falls under Ormand’s hypnotic, vampiric spell.
