The Home Entertainment Edition Comes With Special Features

The Blu-ray and 4K UHD versions of Madame Web boast several special features, including a gag reel, Easter eggs, a deleted scene, and other behind-the-scenes tidbits. By contrast, the standard DVD edition of the SSU movie features two featurettes, Casting the Web and Future Vision. Fans can pre-order the Blu-ray and DVD copies of Madame Web via Amazon.

Featuring Dakota Johnson as the film’s eponymous character Cassandra Webb, Madame Web has received very little love from critics and audiences alike since its Feb. 14 release. Madame Web boasts a 13% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, an all-time low for the SSU, with the film receiving negative reviews for its performances, straying from the comic book source material and CGI use. Made on an $80 million budget, the movie earned just $99.8 million at the international box office, easily the lowest for an SSU title.

Even Johnson has offered less than complimentary thoughts on the film, insisting she’s yet to watch the movie and admitting significant creative shifts along the way, with her revelations reportedly upsetting Sony. Co-star Sydney Sweeney, who stars as Julia Cornwall, later admitted her decision to join Madame Web was “strategic” as she used the opportunity to build closer relationships with Sony executives for other projects. She also mocked the film’s box-office struggles during a recent appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Also starring Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim and Mike Epps, Madame Web chronicles Cassandra’s transition from a clairvoyant medic to a reluctant superhero as she’s tasked with saving three young women from the nefarious Ezekiel Sims (Rahim). Directed by S.J. Clarkson, Madame Web is the fourth SSU installment following Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius. Johnson previously alluded to discussions about a potential sequel. However, Sony has reportedly abandoned such plans following the film’s performance.
